Description

Wham Bars - Absolutely POPtastic! Think of all things 80s: Rubik's Cubes, leggings, garish plastic earrings 'a la Pat Butcher', shaggy perms, electric blue eyeshadow, Screwballs (remember that ice cream in a funny triangular plastic cup with a ball of bubblegum at the bottom), and ...WHAM BARS!

Yes, the Wham bar is indeed iconic, and takes pride of place in the 80s Hall of Fame. You just weren't a cool cat if you didn't pop into the sweetie shop on the way home from school to pick up a couple of Wham Bars.

For those of you who missed this momentous experience, and are not familiar with this classic retro sweet, Wham bars are lovely tongue-tingling raspberry flavour chewy bars with little bits of fizzy stuff embedded in the chewiness.

They are totally fab, and it's worth getting them just to admire the stunning blue galactic wrapping they come in - it's retro-futuristic/pop-art at its best!

Wham Nostalgia
Travel down memory lane and reminisce on the good old times when you knocked out a few of your teeth with a traditional sweet that gave your mouth a good workout. The Wham Bar is one of the most popular retro sweets of all time. It is an amazingly chewy bar that is full of tangy and fizzy flavors with a sherbet middle inside. We definitely know someone who lost a baby tooth to these pink, sticky, chewy bars laced with tongue-fizzing greens. A true British sweet that both children and adults enjoy but what’s the history behind the wham sweets we are so fond of?

History
The Wham Bar was a very popular treat during the 80s which sold more than 30 million bars a year. These wham sweets come in an exciting packaging that looks like a box of fireworks. It was introduced by a Scottish sweets manufacturer - McCowan’s.

McCowan’s
McCowan’s was founded by Andrew McCowan who originally made a living by selling aerated water before discovering how popular his wife’s toffee was. His wife sold toffee from the window of their Stenhousemuir house to earn extra money for their family.McCowan’s sweets were devoured by children and adults alike due to its seemingly low price, making it available to those who couldn’t afford to spend a lot on sweets. During their peak, the brand became so successful that it exported to countries all over the world which include Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.Wham XTRM Sherbet Dips were added to their range of wham sweets in 2009. A packet of sherbet dips containing a blackcurrant lollipop inside. In 2010, they introduced the “Luscious Strawberry” flavored Glam Bar. Additionally, Tangerine Confectionery acquired the rights to this chewy bar in 2011.

Tangerine Confectionery
Tangerine Confectionery is the 4th largest sweet maker in the United Kingdom. Its current portfolio boasts a plethora of iconic and traditional brands which include Barratts Refreshers, Blackjack, Sherbet Fountain, Fruit Salad, Henry Goode and Princess Mallows to name a few.Wham Bars currently come in a variety of flavors, including the Original (Raspberry), Strawberry, Cola, Brew, Sour Apple and Sour Cherry. With Tangerine’s acquisition, the chewy bar was revamped with an improved recipe to make it even deliciouser!
