Turkish Delight is also called Lokum, or in Arabic 'rāḥat al-ḥulqūm' (which means 'Throat Comfort'... apt!). It it thought to have been originally introduced to the UK by a Briton who travelled to Istanbul and became rather fond of it. It is a huge tradition all over the Middle East, and is traditionally made with a large variety of natural ingredients, from dates, to walnuts, pistachios, rosewater, orange and lemon.

It has, via Fry's Turkish Delight, made its way into the UK's sweetie hall of fame.
