The Iconic Sony Walkman 2

Over the years a number of products became THE thing to have... and then completely disappeared as the World moved on and they got left behind.

This is particularly true with technological products.

These days it seems that everyone who is anyone has those funny little white Apple earphone jobbies dangling from their ears.

Wind back 40 years (can you believe that? FORTY YEARS!) to 1981 and the coolest colour was...

ORANGE!

The uncool brigade had portable tape players with black headphones.

But those who could... owned a Sony Walkman 2 with its beautiful orange, foam headphone pads.

I confess that I thought I remembered what that iconic classic looked like but it turns out that my memory was a combination of a load of the different Walkman units and clones from over the years.

So I hunted around and found this image on Pocket-Lint.com.

The Walkman 2 looked unlike anything else around at the time... it was so compact and utterly beautifully designed.
