I’ve just had a flashback to PACERS whilst browsing your mint selections. Whatever happened to those yummy, chewy little green & white striped squares. They were FAB – bring them back I say!

Pacers!!!!

Dear All, Have seen your section on Pacers and am so disappointed that they are no longer around.  All of my friends and I thought they were the best mint sweet of the 70′s.  We should start a campaign to bring them back.  Were they by Trebor?  Thanks Susie (Mint lover!)

Pacers were originally called Opal Mints, a mint version of Opal Fruits as the name suggests. Michael

Hi, I’m beginning to wonder whether I imagined the existence of Pacers (little white mint chewy sweets with green stripes on them) as nobody that I know can remember them.  Do you have any idea what happened to them? Emma

Green and white striped mint flavoured square-shaped sweets in a tube – in around the mid 1980s…..

Yeah pacers were great but I remember Opal Mints, the wrapper looked like Opal Fruits but white with green writing? I think the sweets may have just been white, unlike the green stripes of Pacers.

I agree with you on pacers….that’s why I’ve ordered loads of Mojo spearmint from you! Also what happened to Cabana bars? they were coconut with cherries in covered with chocolate, delicious. Sweets aren’t the same these days, Haribo, yuk….

Hi Just discovered your site – excellent. Re Pacers – I am old enough to remember they used to actually be called Opal Mints in the ’60s. GK

  1. Steve H remembers: -

Yes, I remember them as ‘Opal Mints’ as well !!

Anyone remember the Pacer’s ad ? (“Stripes ???”, followed by 3 ascending tones/sounds as green stripes appeared on a white t-shirt (among other things).

They were around in the 80′s. They were approximately the size of chewits with a unforgettable spearmint flavour. Without Pacers, your website is incomplete…..

I agree it was only today I was talking about the good old pacer mint and how much i miss them and that they were really sneaky just stopping making them an all.
    Bring them back!
They were great and you know whilst we’re on the subject, change the name back from Starburst to opal fruits who cares what the rest of Europe call them and Marathons will never be snickers!
On a completely different angle Jif can never be Cif.

A bit like spearmint Opal Fruits (we refuse to call them Starburst!). They were soft and chewy and delicious. They started off all white and then the manufacturers added 3 green stripes. And then they stopped making them…why oh why???

  1. nicki remembers: -

i loved pacers when i was a kid!!BRING THEM BACK!!!

  2. rachel remembers: -

mmmm, pacers. Well do I remember their superior mintiness and stuffing the green and white striped wrappers down the back of the seats in my parents renault 12. They loved that.
    Bring back pacers.

  3. igcw remembers: -

and, if I remember right, according to the advert, anyone who ate one would have a large green stripe appear on their clothes, a pair of ice dancers for instance!!
