I used to buy these from a sweet shop near school in 1985 They were black and quite sour tasting, they turned red after a while Rebecca
This may not be the actual name of the sweet, but the were like sour pips only black, aniseed tasting almost, and the got hot and turned red when you sucked them. they were available about 10 years ago.
A small blackcurrant fizz-bomb type sweet (ie covered in dark purple sugar)
Boiled sweet black and tangy….
Very fizzy, same range as your tom thumb drops, blackcurrant sour flavour, turned your mouth black!!!

I remeber these as “coals from newcastle”, a strawberry fizz-bomb covered in black sour kali/sherbet. I used to love these back in ’82.
