Callard & Bowser Dessert Nougat

Liquorice & Nougat

by michaelp

Made by Callard & Bowser, in rectangular packets/boxes. The liquorice had black and silver wrapping, nougat wrapped in rice paper. About 10 pieces in a packet/box

i found this delight at hannaford in the kingston area about three years or so ago….but have not found it since…..i keep searching for this….i believe it was considered english licorice toffee…and yes….there were about ten pieces wrapped in that most lovely silver foil…just the sight and the sound of that crinkling paper was enough to make one’s mouth water,,,,possible just like pavlov’s doggies

I used to love those things!! id buy boxes of the stuff from wholesalers! if anyone knows where 2 get any give me a shout!!

Delicious nougat in a box. About 6 individually wrapped pieces. They had glace cherries and almonds and were wrapped in rice paper. absolutely scrummy.

  1. David Konopinski remembers: -

    1. The individual wrapping was silver with an edible rice paper under that – no sticky fingers.

    2. They weren’t glace cherries, they were rose flavoured jellies.

    3. No idea what happened to them, but would like to know.

i had an old fashioned sweetshop for years. So many lovely sweets have disappeared but the nougat was the delishiest. Has it gone for ever?

Can you still buy this or is it gone forever cheers Neil

  4. BHASKER remembers: -

WHERE CAN I BUY THESE DESSERT NOUGAT.

  5. Simon remembers: -

My grandfather used to buy these for me! Tragically, Suchard, who bought the Callard and Bowser name, have discontinued production of the most delicious sweets ever!! Shame on them!

  6. Michael remembers: -

Actually according to the company’s releases, was a decison of the american company Wrigley who make chewing gum and who acquired callard and bowser brand last year. Shame indeed.

  7. Susan remembers: -

I’ve been looking for these for years. We used to have them every Christmas when I was a kid. Everything about them was just glorious. Yummo! I had a nasty feeling they must have been discontinued so your post about Suchard confirms it. What were they thinking??? No other nougat comes close.

  8. Simon Harris remembers: -

Yes an absolute disgrace. I propose a ‘bring back desert nougat’ campaign!
