Back in the 1970s, once a month after collecting me from junior school, my mother would take me with her to our local newsagent to pay her paper bill. I always remember her enjoying the opportunity to indulge in a few ‘secret’ treats for herself as she set up the new tab. She would add [...]

When I think back to my 1970’s childhood, many things blend into memories, Sweets, music, comics and television. However sweets seem to evoke the more powerful recollections. I remember going to the newsagents with my mum, during a power cut. We walked in and there were dozens of candles flickering all over the shop counter. [...]

In the fifties, thick smog would often press down over Wigan on cold winter mornings. Like many other young children, I walked to school. On foggy days we wore woollen scarves over our mouths, tied at the back of the neck. On the way, I passed May’s toffee shop. Tempting if you had a three [...]

Watermelon Slices

by Mark Edwards

We have placed a few orders with you over the years.  In previous orders we have included little pink watermelon flavoured segments.  They were half moon shaped jellies.  I cannot seem to find them on your website as I know we have ordered them before?  Can you tell me where they have gone?!?! Danny

Do you remember/stock a sweet which was basically a stick of twisted hard caramel/toffee about 10″ long, 1/2″ diameter, with chocolate in the centre. It was packaged in an orange cellophane wrapper. Probably about in early 1960′s. I loved them and it would be great if they were still available!

Hi, I was wondering if any of you remember those delicious sticks of hard, brittle toffee, a bit like a stick of rock, but really thin, with gorgeous rich chocolate running through the centre?
