At last, I have got the name of my favourite chocolate bar. I knew the old name WAS Trophy but couldn't remember it's new name Banjo. I wish they still made them. The wafer was so light with just the right amount of peanuts on the top. I could scoff loads.

Newberry Fruits

One of my mother's favourites was Meltis Newberry Fruits, but haven't seen them for quite some time. Can you help???

R.H

Posted on February 27, 2004

In the Bedfordshire & Luton Archives and Records service (!) it states that they aquired the archives of Meltis Plc following the liquidation of the firm in 1996. (Put Meltis New Berry fruits into Google search!) At end of article there it states thast trade name was purchased by Hosta UK of Oxfordshire who became Hosta Meltis Ltd. Do read article if you're interested, it's quite sad really! I'm going to search for Hosta Meltis to see if there is any New Berry fruits info there!

Soft Nougat

-----------------------
A sweet that is really popular with my friends & I is the soft nougat that they make the dolly mixtures with (the 2 coloured ones). It comes in large rolls with the 2 flavours mixed together - I always buy bags full when I visit the Ideal Home Exhibition (the sweet stall!) if you stocked that you would have a regular large order from myself! I can't get it anywhere else except the home show & Thorpe Park!!!

Cabana Bars

I loved Cadbury's Cabana bars, though I can't remember precisely what was in them. I do however, remember the use of the Banana Boat Song in the advertising ('Hey Mister Cadbury man, bring me a cabana...'). When were they discontinued? They must have had a very short lifespan.

Ovaltine bars were a favourite of mine in the early eighties, but no-one else, other than my brothers, seems to remember that they ever existed.
Basically, they didn't seem to be much more than a bar of chocolate with bits of Ovaltine powder in - slightly gritty but deliciously malty!

Is there anything even vaguely similar to either of these products still in production anywhere?

Chocolate lemon

I remember my mom sending me to the CO-OP for these. It was exactly like the chocolate orange (tap it and unwrap it if you were lucky and "tapped" it hard enough!). It was around in the early '80s for sure.

What a great site.

Nutty Bars

Hi,
I am a fan of nutty bars and was wondering if such a thing was available.
Also, can you still get spangles, and something similar to a texan bar ?
I will not say what I would do for a nutty bar, I haven't had one in maybe 20 years!!

What ever happened to the Cabana bar by Cadburys ?

I look forward to hearing from you

Kind Regards

S.W.

Uncanny! 0ver a year since p.t.'s note was posted and it sounds like my sister-in-law and i are having having the same conversation as someone on 17th nov 2004. Problem is we don't have the answer just asking the same question. Can anyone help!

Posted by: al & lisa on February 4, 2006

Has there been any update on the nutty bars and cabana's. They were a favourite of mine too, I remeber greedily buying the nutty 3 pack.

Posted by: Neil on February 7, 2006

Nutty bars were my fav. Been thinking about them for years wishing they would bring them back. As someone else said, I would eat all the nuts first then the caramel and then the fudge. Please bring them back. My stable diet at school lunchtimes!

Texan bars were on sale here this summer. Not quite the same but damn near.

I've been looking for these for years. My mum used to buy them for herself, and I would eat them for her! I remember her telling me they were no longer available at least ten years ago, but I've been hopeful someone would discover a supplier - you are our only chance! If only someone knew who manufactured them!

Cabana and Nutty Bars

Many moons ago there used to be two types of choc bars. One was called a cabana which had a coconut and cherry centre and chocolate covered . The other was called a nutty which had a fudge centre covered in soft toffee and encrusted with peanuts. These you can no longer buy. Do you have any ideas if you can still get them or have they been taken out of production. It would be great if you can find this out for me many thanks.

Have been thinking about Counters this weekend when I licked the base of two cadbury buttons together. They were polished and much smaller than buttons and the packaging was white (light a buttons type of bag but smaller) and had probably five different designs on them one of which was a giraffe and on the back was something for a child to count.

I have very fond memories of them and though I have trawled the net I can't find an image of them. :o(

Posted by: joanna oldham on September 18, 2006

I'm sure I remember Cremola foam from the 1950's in Bath.

Jolly Ranchers

I'm only a young lad of age 15 and wasn't around when most of these sweet where out but I'd love to know whatever happened to Jolly Ranchers, those hard boiled square shaped sweets that came in a packet. They had the most unique flavours and where delicious, yet they seemed to have vanished.

Also a couple of years ago nestle made these white and milk chocolate covered pretsels, and they where the nicest sweet ever but they where taken off the shelves quite quickly. Do you know what happened to them as me and my mum loved them.

Thanx for the help

chocolate bar

Hi, Just found your website, delicious!! I wondered if you knew if they continued to make a chocolate bar that I shall describe but cannot for the life of me remember the name of. All I know is that my mum and I loved them! It was a bar of chocolate, shaped into 5 hexagonal areas, filled with silky caramel and a hazelnut in each one. It was around in the mid to late 80's? May have been a Nestle product..

Thanks

Frys Five Centres

Frys Five Centres
This was around in the 1970's (along with a Cadburys bar which was like a box of chocolates in a bar). However it was withdrawn -

The bar of Chocolate that was a box of chocolates was called the Milk Tray bar and featured eight of the chocolates from the box of Milk Tray. The Lime barrell. the orange half moon and the strawberry were my faves...

....and on Aztec bars, I bought one in Angelsey when they were briefly re-issued there in around 1996. The original bars tied in with the 1968 Olympics ..not as nice as I remember them ..great purple wrapper though.
