Delicious trend for nostalgic novelty gifts

We have been carrying out a bit of research about novelty gifts. We are not going to claim that our study is in anyway scientifically robust, or, indeed, especially unbiased. But we have found a trend that seems to suggest that more people are looking for gifts that are original yet poignant. Apparently, and this was actually reported in a newspaper, novelty gifts are the height of 21st century chic – and nostalgic sweets hit the nail on the head.

Why chose retro sweets for novelty gifts?

Everyone has their favourite retro sweets. From Penny Chews to Wham Bars, Sherbet Pips to Sherbet Fountains, Humbugs to Kola Kubes and Liquorice Comforts to Aniseed Twists, just a mention of a wide range of these old-fashioned sweets brings a huge grin to the face of pretty much anyone.

It’s that look that we have seen so many times… the one that says “scrumptilicious corner sweet shop memories” and “delicious after-school days”. We all have our “quarter of” stories and we all recall the prices back then of our favourite sweets. So it’s no wonder that retro sweets and their nostalgic connotations are a growing trend for buys of brilliant novelty gifts.

A case study in brilliant novelty gifts

Janey, of Glasgow, hit the jackpot in novelty gifts when she surprised her dad on his 66th birthday with a Loadsa Lovely Liquorice Hamper. Dad Jim has a minor addiction to Liquorice Allsorts and expects that a dutiful relative will buy him a box of his favourite sweets each birthday and Christmas. But he was quite overwhlemd to be sent a Quarter of Hamper of Loadsa Lovely Liquorice.

Janey said: “Dad isn’t normally one for emotional moments but you should have heard him when he opened the Luscious Liquorice Assortment. He seemed stunned and amazed that all his favourite boyhood liquorice sweets, like liquorice comforts, liquorice cuttings, Pontefract cakes, Mighty Imps and so many more were included. I can defintiely say it was the best present he’d received for years and is certainly a brilliant idea if you’re looking for unique, and poignant, novelty gifts for friends or family.”
